Sunday- Church (not wild haha), Nets Game (=loss), NBAToday.net Podcast (Quality Nerd Time)

Saturday- Woke at 6:30am to drive to Track Meet…got home at 5pm and slept through until Sunday

Friday- Practice, then drove to Atlantic City…went to bed at around 5am (UGH!)

…What I’ve learned from this weekend:

1. Going to AC is kind of pointless. I don’t gamble, and I never have as much fun as I thought I would.
2. My car is a warrior.
3. Going to church gives me a solid sense of peace heading into the week…any stress I have pretty much dissipates.
4. My friends’ and I run an NBA blog…which showed great promise during this past week…very exciting. NBAToday.net Check it out!

1. As an Eagle fan, I know what I’m getting when McNabb steps onto the field…a solid starter.
2. We have a group of young receivers who are only going to get better. Give them another year of work with McNabb.
3. Winning a Super Bowl with McNabb, would mean so much more, than winning without him to me.
4. If McNabb played for the Vikings, or any other contender, he would prove his worth, making us look stupid.

What Donovan does need to change, is his resistance to scramble with the football. Too many times he didn’t take advantage of his legs when he could have. I think we should trade one of our back ups, and look to improve defensively and in the backfield. McNabb couldn’t change the fact that Dallas was driving all over us 2 games in a row, or the fact that he is forced to pass the ball every play. McNabb for life!

But to me, there are no excuses. Coach Roy Williams has to make gameplay changes to take advantage of the attributes we do possess….size and athleticism. I think right now we’re trying to play in the same style as last year, which was to run teams out of the gym, pouring in basket after basket. This year, we should be playing a defense-first style play. The set offense should revolve around getting the ball inside, otherwise, look to create baskets off of defense. Regardless of my thoughts, this season is over. At least I still have Syracuse to lean on.

Sigh.

I took these photos in anger while driving to coach this past fall. It’s called a Nissan cube and if you own this, you’re being silly.

On this run, I chose to do a loop I call “Dublin,” as I used it as a course for my second run of a day back when I was a good at running. “Dublin” is exactly 2 and a half miles, and takes me past 2 of my favorite places in South Plainfield (Quick Chek & Rudolfo’s Pizza).

I stretched before the run, which is rare, but I was trying to prolong what was about to happen. I clicked my ipod shuffle on, and headed out to complete the loop. About a mile in, I felt surprisingly……GREAT. I even daydreamed of once again, returning to a spot in life where I could be good at running. I thought about breaking 4:00 in the 1500 for the first time. I laughed to myself at the time I sat in 5th or 6th place with 200m to go, only to fly by everyone around me, winning a race on the home track. That race, I crossed the line and smirked at my Dad. Today, passing the Bagel Pantry, I smirked at an old teacher I had, as she struggled to get her pear shaped frame out of her Jetta. She brought me back to reality.

As I settled back into reality these cool memories became more distant, and I began to feel like I was suffocating. It was a little after 12 noon, so it wasn’t too cold out, but the cool air was attacking my lungs. Thankfully, I only had about a mile to go at this point, and will-powered my way on home.  Approaching my street, I thought back to how I ran a 4:30-somethin mile the day after splitting a 4:16. I cringed at the memory of when I ran a 9:40somethin 3K at the armory my freshman year of college. Ugh.

In the span of one run, I saw myself in my brightest running days, and my worst…..and what will push me out the door tomorrow, is to remind myself of the earlier memories I mentioned….and that perhaps, I might just have something left in the ol’ tank.

The second is to explain a big reason for my absence. For whatever reason, 2010 has been the year of sickness for me. Anyone who knows me, knows I rarely ever get sick. A little over a month into this year and I’ve been sick three times!

The first two were bad colds, but the most recent was a violent batch of food poisoning. The wendys in south plainfield has forever lost my service.

I approach what looks to be my car, and think, “No, that can’t be my car….I have a passengers’ side window…not a garbage bag.” Upon further review, I came to realize that not only was it my car, but she had been stripped naked. I look inside for the most important possession I had in my car at the time: Not my Ray-ban shades, GPS, Police radar…….Lupe Fiasco’s ‘The Cool’. Of course its gone, so I look to see what other things are missing.

Blueprint 1 and 2? Gone.

Car Audio Unit? Gone.

GPS? Gone.

Police Radar Detector? Gone.

Tent that a parent let me borrow for my track team? Gone.

Nas’ Hip Hop is Dead? Gone

American Gangster and Kingdom Come? Gone.

808′s and Heartbreaks? Still there. LOL Sorry Ye’.

Now you’re probably thinking, “Galen, you’re an idiot, you can’t have all that crap out in the open!” I can honestly say that I had everything hidden and tucked away. GPS in the stash box. CD’s under my seat. So I go to the security desk to find out what I need to do paper work wise, and on the ground, I see the $400 dollar tent that the thieves left behind. Whew. I was also shocked to see that my Ray-Bans weren’t stolen.

If you’re going to go through the effort of breaking a window to steal from a car, why wouldn’t you steal things that had actual value? Oh, that’s right, because you’re an idiot, who is stealing from cars to make an income. I’d be more impressed if they had just stolen my car. At least that’s gully.

It was awful driving two hours with no music, freezing because I couldn’t drive with a hefty bag as a window (Talk about a blind spot). Thankfully, my old soccer coach from way back in the day owns the window place in my town…so I’ll be looking for a hookup.

5. Tupac- “Changes” came on my ipod today. Arguably my favorite song of all time. “Rata tat tat tat tat…That’s the way it is!”

4. Nas- ‘Illmatic’, ‘Stillmatic’…’Hip Hop is Dead’ is still relevant right now. His last album was kinda booty. ‘Ether’ is legendary.

3. Biggie- People put him #1, but he only had 2 albums. Both classic, but I know he would’ve fell off signed to Bad Boy.

2. Eminem- His music changed my life from middle school on forward. I still bump “Superman” when girls dump me.

1. Jay Z- Greatest ever. He’s never had an actual bad album. Not one. His worst are on par with others’ best. Case closed.

Cent 1: I’ve become so desensitized to baseball players admitting steroid use. It almost doesn’t even matter to me anymore. What bothers me, is that it doesn’t bother me. Does that make sense? LOL. What I’m saying, is that I don’t even care that the man took steroids, but I feel like I should.

Cent 2: If this fool ever gets voted into the Hall of Fame, then it’ll be super clear that Barry Bonds is just that hated.

And that’s all I have to say about that. Shout outs to Ken Griffey Jr.

Why? Because I’m an optimistic person.

The reason I ended my first blog, from way back was because I did a horrible job of keeping up with it. My second blog was pretty successful, but I gave that up to focus on NBAToday.net, an NBA blog that a few of my friends and I started. Now that I’ve gotten used to handling it, I figured, “Kablam, let’s start the personal blog up again!!!”

What to look forward to? Not much, but probably some random stories of dumb things that occur to me, along with my opinion on many things….since I’m sure you all value my opinon (sike).
